WRC-12 Day 8 - 30 January 2012 - An allocation or no allocation?

Meetings, followed by meetings, followed by meetings. Starting at 8.30am and, with short breaks for lunch and coffee, the final meeting of the day finished around 7pm. Already, the sub working group dealing with the 500kHz issue has met for an extra session, with yet another scheduled for tomorrow. Iran remains firmly opposed to an allocation to the amateur service, while the Russian position has softened slightly - providing certain conditions are written into the regulations.

Discussions continue in the group dealing with agenda item 1.15, HF Oceanic Radar, and it is now becoming apparent that an allocation in the 5MHz band is favoured. Just where and how large remains to be seen.

 WRC-12 Day 7-29 January 2012-Sunday working

After intense discussions during this Sunday meeting, a drafting group produced a document that lays out the positions of those administrations both for an allocation and those against an allocation at 472-479kHz to the amateur service. The document will now be discussed again in sub-working group 4C3 on Monday to try and find a way forward.

Meanwhile, in depth discussions continue in the group dealing with agenda item 1.15, the HF Oceanic Radar. At the present time there appears to be no threat to the amateur service and there have been no detailed discussions on the proposed 5MHz allocation for this use.
