$850,000 raised for Tesla Museum
Cartoonist Matthew Inman, creator of The Oatmeal, has raised $850,000
to set up a museum honoring the great scientist Nikola Tesla.
Tesla's old laboratory in Shoreham, New York (known as Wardenclyffe)
is up for sale with a price tag of $1.6m. The Friends of Science East
want to buy the site and build a museum to Tesla, and the New York
State government offered a grant of $850,000 to purchase the site if
matching funds could be raised.

Tesla is best known for his contributions to the modern alternating
current (AC) electrical supply system. Tesla's patents and theoretical
work helped form the basis of wireless communication and radio. His
many revolutionary developments in the field of electromagnetism were
based on Michael Faraday's theories of electromagnetic technology.
