Soviet Woodpecker antenna video

This video shows the impressive antenna system used by the Soviet Union for their 'Woodpecker' HF over-the-horizon radar system.

The ABM-2 or DUGA-3 900 metre-long radar system is based just outside Chernobyl and was used during the cold war to detect anti-ballistic missiles from thousands of miles away.

The signal it transmitted sounded like a woodpecker, hence the nickname. It was so strong that it resulted in worldwide complaints following massive interference to other shortwave users.
