Louis is well known for his development in the late 1940's of the G5RV HF antenna which to this day is still one of the most popular HF antennas.

Louis was also a founder member of the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society (CARS), originally called the Chelmsford RSGB Group. The first meeting was held in Louis's home in Galleywood Road, Chelmsford in April 1936.

CARS will be running a special event station GB5RVA (G5RV-Anniversary) on June 9 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Louis G5RV.
