500kHz - WRC Preparatory Meeting

Conference Preparatory Meeting 11-2 (for World Radiocommunications Conference 2012) has been taking place in Geneva.

An IARU Region 1 report by Hans PB2T says:

Document 175 (Rev. 1) was adopted by Plenary Friday afternoon and completes the work of the CPM on Agenda Item 1.23 (to consider an allocation of about 15 kHz in parts of the band 415-526.5 kHz to the amateur service on a secondary basis, taking into account the need to protect existing services). The original Method A was removed from the text because there was no administration to support it.

There are three methods left

Method A: A secondary allocation of up to 15 kHz to the ARS on a worldwide basis between 472 kHz and 487 kHz.

Method B: Two non-contiguous worldwide secondary allocations to the ARS at 461-469 kHz and 471-478 kHz, totalling 15 kHz.

Method C: No change to the Radio Regulations.

Congratulations to all concerned and especially to Ken Pulfer VE3PU who chaired the subgroup for AI 1.23. IARU Region 1 was represented by Colin Thomas G3PSM and myself, [Hans PB2T].
