CEPT considers future of FM
A CEPT working group will be considering the future of broadcasting in FM Band II (87.5 - 108 MHz) at its meeting on May 17-24.
The 69th meeting of the CEPT Frequency Management Working Group (WGFM) takes place in St Petersburg May 17-24 and among the items being considered are Digital Broadcasting on the current FM Band II and frequencies below 80 MHz.
The Input Papers submitted for the meeting include
FM(10)060_Revision Draft ECC Report 141 on Band II
There are a number of candidate digital broadcasting systems that might be deployed as a long-term replacement for FM in Band II (87.5 - 108 MHz). This revised draft ECC Report explores the features that digital technologies might offer and considers if a transition to digital sound broadcasting would be beneficial in Band II.
The draft revised report also includes an overview of current and foreseen usage of Band II in twenty five CEPT countries.
FM(10)059_Revised ECC Report 117 on digital sound broadcasting below 80 MHz
This report looks at the use of the lower frequency broadcast bands - below 80MHz - for digital broadcasting to national, local and community audiences. Included are the LF, MF, 26MHz (HF) bands and VHF Band I. The report does not attempt to analyse the potential transition strategies for those HF bands which are primarily used for long distance, international broadcasting.
