Morse Code: Digital mode for interplanetary communication..?

A YouTube video showing a demonstration of Morse Code to students at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee makes the point that Morse is currently the mode of choice for Interplanetary communications.

The YouTube description starts:

"Morse Code demo at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee on the occasion of Cognizance 2009- annual technical festival of IIT Roorkee organized by students of electronics and computer department" and then describes the successful Earth-Venus-Earth tests carried out by Radio Amateurs at Bochum on March 25.
